Mawan Terminal Catches Misdeclared Dangerous Goods

On November 7, during a routine inspection at the Mawan Container Terminal's hazardous cargo yard, a container labeled as “general cargo lithium batteries” raised suspicions. Upon further examination and testing, it was confirmed that the contents were in fact Class 9 UN3480 hazardous lithium batteries, which pose significant safety risks during transportation.

The company behind the shipment, Shenzhen **International Freight Forwarding Co., Ltd., was identified as the consignor. During the investigation, the company's legal representative, Mr. Dong, admitted that due to negligence, they had failed to properly declare the hazardous nature of the cargo. This misdeclaration meant that the terminal company was unaware of the true risks associated with the lithium batteries.

According to the "Regulations on the Safety Management of Port Hazardous Cargo," such misdeclaration is a serious offense. The company was found to have violated the rules by presenting hazardous cargo as general cargo for port operations. As a result, law enforcement officers issued a "Notice of Illegal Acts" and proposed a fine of 100,000 yuan to the company.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of accurate and honest cargo declaration in the shipping industry. Lithium batteries, when not properly handled and declared, can cause fires, emit smoke, and even explode, leading to chain reactions that can have irreversible and severe consequences, including substantial economic losses and potential harm to human life.

For businesses and individuals with transportation needs, especially those involving potentially hazardous materials, it is imperative to engage the services of a reputable logistics company with a proven track record of safe and compliant transportation. Such companies have the expertise and resources to ensure that all cargo is accurately declared and handled according to the strict safety standards required by law. By choosing a reliable logistics partner, shippers can help prevent accidents, avoid legal penalties, and contribute to the overall safety and efficiency of the global supply chain.
