The Shenzhen Municipal Transportation Bureau recently released its 2025 transportation work report, revealing that the city plans to open and expand more than 10 international passenger and cargo routes in 2025.
The report pointed out that as city gateways, the port and airport achieved both quantitative and qualitative growth in 2024. Specifically, the container throughput of Shenzhen Port reached 33.399 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 11.8%. Maritime exports of vehicles (including KD parts) totaled 239,000 units. The city added six new combined port routes and four inland ports, bringing the total number of combined port and inland ports to 62. Shenzhen Airport handled 61.477 million passenger trips, a year-on-year increase of 16.6%, making it the fourth airport in the mainland to exceed the 60 million passenger mark. Cargo throughput reached 1.881 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 17.6%. Cross-border e-commerce air cargo volume reached 326,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 60.3%. A total of 19 new international and regional passenger and cargo routes were opened, bringing the total number of routes to 89.
Based on this foundation, Shenzhen will further enhance its international shipping services in 2025, consolidating and enhancing the global influence and competitiveness of Shenzhen Port. At the same time, the city will improve the quality of maritime tourism passenger services, accelerate the construction of an Asian bunker fuel filling center, and promote the cluster development of high-end shipping services. In terms of airports, Shenzhen will continue to build a more extensive global air transportation system, enhancing the capacity of its locational hub and composite international aviation hub. The city plans to achieve an airport passenger throughput of over 63 million trips and a cargo throughput of over 1.9 million tons, while opening and expanding more than 10 international passenger and cargo routes, bringing the total number of routes to over 95.
